Bitter Cold

This morning the temperature fell to -5 degrees F. Note the display unit of my electronic weather station. It relies on a sensor unit outdoors, which sends constantly updated information to the display unit.
Around 5 a.m. today I saw Jupiter and Mars very near one another in the S/SE, but for obvious reasons I had to view them from indoors...

Yes it’s aesthetically pleasing and convenient.

It's great that you got to make those astronomical observations. As we know, Mars has two moons, Phobos and Deimos. I recently did some reading on Jupiter; the articles said that it has 69 moons.

Yes as I wrote in fb, I saw Jupiter and Mars close together in the predawn dark, but because of the extreme cold, had to view them from indoors. Mars is passing below Jupiter. It’s cloudy this morning but next time I see them they’ll be separated.
Btw the temperature displayed on the device this morning is 19 F. Good to see milder weather working its way in. :)

I just saw in today's paper that Windsor Locks, where the official lows are recorded, saw a record -9 F. That's four degrees lower than what my device recorded here in Manchester. The official high at Windsor Locks (13 F) was also lower than the high here-16 F.

It has warmed up here in Arkansas. This past weekend was relatively mild. There has been a moderate amount of rain.

I just knew that after the severe cold, there would be a "compensatory" warm spell and there was. The past two days saw record highs--60 and 59 F (up to 62 F here).
But colder weather has returned now.

It's cold here in Arkansas. We had our first snow last night. I'm sure that it's bitter cold up in Alaska. Those crab fishermen on Bering Sea are having quite a time. I watch the show Deadliest Catch; it's about crab fishing on Bering Sea. Right now, their activities are being filmed. In April, I'll be watching the show.

It's sunny here but definitely cold. I haven't checked the temperature yet. Hopefully it will warm up.

The seasonably mild weather finally arrived in Arkansas. I stepped outside and it's nice now! I will walk to town in a few minutes.

Good to hear that. :) We’ll get seasonably mild weather here these next few days. When do reptiles come out of hibernation in Arkansas?

Reptiles generally come out of hibernation in April in Arkansas. However, they will come out in March if it's unusually warm for March.

It’s pretty much the same here in CT. I’ve seen snakes as early as March, during warm spells late in the month. I imagine global warming will reduce the time reptiles need to hibernate.

It's warm today. I walked to town and bought some items at a convenience store. I agree; if global warming continues, reptiles will be able to come out much earlier. As we know, the earth has gone through some extremely hot periods, for example, in the Eocene and the Carboniferous.
