Failure of Iraq Policy

Prior to the elections in Iraq, it was hoped that Sunni participation would lessen support for the insurgency by giving the Sunnis a greater stake in seeing the new democracy work. But the Sunnis remain underepresented in their view and allege the elections were rigged to prevent them from getting the representation they deserved. So the insurgency and prospect of civil war are unlikely to ease...

The US has obviously acted on the basis of ignorance and wishful thinking. It was worse than naive to think the US knew more about how to make Iraq stable than the government it eliminated. Hussein knew that the Iraqis would never remain a united state except through force; in other words only dictatorship can unify and stabilize the country.
