Failure of Iraq Policy

Prior to the elections in Iraq, it was hoped that Sunni participation would lessen support for the insurgency by giving the Sunnis a greater stake in seeing the new democracy work. But the Sunnis remain underepresented in their view and allege the elections were rigged to prevent them from getting the representation they deserved. So the insurgency and prospect of civil war are unlikely to ease...

The US has obviously acted on the basis of ignorance and wishful thinking. It was worse than naive to think the US knew more about how to make Iraq stable than the government it eliminated. Hussein knew that the Iraqis would never remain a united state except through force; in other words only dictatorship can unify and stabilize the country.

The Kurds are now preparing a complete break from Baghdad, which may lead to civil war and perhaps even Turkish intervention. This is further evidence that invading Iraq was a very bad idea. Democracy is not suited to Iraq, which will fragment without a strong central government.

I read an article which mentioned that there are now 154 investigations of bribery, bid rigging, and fraud connected with contracts in relation to the war. Greed was what motivated the invasion of Iraq. Invading Iraq was a colossal mistake. It was a corrupt act.

It is essential that American troops be pulled out of Iraq as soon as possible. North Korea has tested several missles and apparently made a nuclear bomb test. To deal with situations like the one in Korea, the U.S. needs troops availabe. Keeping troops in Iraq is a waste of time and money. It diverts U.S. troop strength from areas where it is needed.

Now ten years later, I've been vindicated. If only people had listened to me and others with similar views, in late 2002....
