Whipping of Women
Throughout history, corporal punishment was usually inflicted on males. Some females, however, were also lashed. Below are examples from ancient times to the 19th century.
Boudicca, the British queen, being whipped by the Romans--an event which touched off a major revolt.
A Roman mistress (right background) has ordered a female slave to be flogged. A black torturer-slave has tied her up and is pushing her down for a lashing on her bare buttocks. The whip was not designed to lacerate the flesh but was loaded with pieces of metal (probably lead) to increase the impact--and pain--of the blows.

Terrible and revolting
Sure highly disagreeable, but historically true. Some aspects of history are "swept under the rug." IMO sanitizing history does a disservice to it.

That is absolutely horrible. I'm a southerner and it makes me feel anguish when I think about how blacks and some whites were brutally whipped. I know that the concept of the "southern gentleman" has been touted a lot. Well, not all southern men have been nice to women. I have always acted in a respectful way toward women, so I fit the image of a gentleman. Of course, the American South has not been the only place in the world where women have been subjected to terrible mistreatment, such as whippings. Brutality is somewhat that I have always hated.
Often I can't stand whipping scenes in movies so I'd have to concur. Note the whipping of Boudicca helped touch off a revolt.
Btw have you seen the planets before dawn? This morning I saw all four--Jupiter low down, Venus somewhat higher, Mars higher still and Saturn on top.

You're right, that whipping of Boudicca ignited a rebellion by the Celts in Britain. I didn't see the planets before dawn. It's great that you got that view of them.
I believe all five naked eye planets will soon be visible, appearing in the right order from the sun--Mercury to Saturn--in the east before dawn.
