Old Wargame
Across Suez is one of several wargames I used to play. Long predating video games, these board games featured low tech playing counters and maps. Two were about WWII, but those about the Mideast were of particular interest. Sinai was a strategic level wargame as is the one pictured above. Others like IDF were tactical.

Those types of games can give insights into battles and how they were fought. In addition, players can determine why the winning side was victorious. They can also realize how the battle could have ended differently if the losing side had used different strategy and tactics.
Great comment Neal! That's EXACTLY how I've felt about war-games since I first started playing them 43 years ago. Many times I've played scenarios to see if an arab defeat was inevitable in a certain battle, or if I could've done better in the "boots" of the Egyptian commander.
Btw happy fourth of July!

Thanks, Tim; I had a great 4th of July. I've seen people playing those war games. Some had to do with battles that could easily have gone the other way. Military history is interesting and often complex. Strategy often involves many intricate aspects.
Hi Neal. Do you remember what war-games those people were playing? There were scores of such games 30-40 years ago.

There were several. One was about the battle of Waterloo. Another had to do with the battle of Stalingrad. I also saw one on the battle of Austerlitz.
